On March 15th, 2019, the Representation of the European Region Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino hosted the seminar “The common agricultural policy: the role of the Institutions, objectives and priorities”, organized by Associazione dei produttori ortofrutticoli trentini (APOT) in cooperation with the Representative office of Federazione Trentina della Cooperazione/Confcooperative in Bruxelles.

The meeting provided an interesting opportunity to reflect and to exchange views on European agricultural policies and on their impact on the Italian and Trentino territory. The speeches explored some key issues, including the revision of the rules on state aid, the directive on unfair trading practices in the agri-food sector and the position of Italy and of the Autonomous Province of Trento regarding the future Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), currently under negotiation at European level.

The speakers included Herbert Dorfmann, member of the Agriculture and rural development committee of European Parliament, Paolo De Castro, vice-president of the Agriculture and rural development committee of European Parliament and rapporteur of the directive on unfair trading practices (the adoption procedure of which is almost completed) and Damiano Li Vecchi, attache on agriculture at the Permanent Representation of Italy to the European Union.

The Autonomous Province of Trento was there represented by Giulia Zanotelli, local minister on agriculture, forestry, hunting and fishing.

The seminar concluded the visit to Bruxelles of a delegation of administrators of fruit and vegetable cooperatives and consortia associated with APOT. On March 4th, 2019, this delegation had taken part to the presentation of the Ipogeo project of Melinda at the European Parliament, project involving the innovative system of fridge-preservation of apples in underground caves on Val di Non.
