The President of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano/Bozen - South Tyrol, Mr Arno Kompatscher, presented yesterday in Brussels his proposal for a sustainable EU food policy. The Commissioner for Health, Mr Vytenis Andriukaitis, took part to the plenary session of the Committee of the Regions (CoR) as well. The proposal has been unanimously adopted by all the CoR political groups. Mr Kompatscher required, in particular, the cooperation between CoR, European Parliament and European Commission, in order to take concrete action soon.
“The EU is facing new big challenges. We are all concerned by food production, since it affects the whole ecosystem. As a consequence, it is fundamental to launch a comprehensive and sustainable food policy at EU level. This should allow, amongst others, to give preference to local products in the framework of public procurement”, stated Mr Kompatscher.
On the occasion of his visit, Mr Kompatscher met yesterday the President of the European Parliament, Mr Antonio Tajani, too. They specifically agreed about the necessity to bring the EU closer to the people.
