Trentino Sviluppo and The School of Sport CONI/Italian Olympic Committee are organizing the international workshop “Women, Leadership & Sport” which will take place in Rome on June 13th, 2019.

We encourage all to support (female) leadership in sport and to participate at this meeting which wishes to be a moment of reflection, motivation and new perspectives and which prospects the participation of great international speakers.

Speakers will include Francesca Sanzone (FIGC), Alessandra Sensini (Vice-President CONI– Italian Olympic Committee), Rossana Ciuffetti (Director, School of Sport, CONI/Italian Olympic Committee), Veronica Diquattro (Executive Vice-President, DAZN), Laura Maffei (Director Strategic Marketing & Cluster Sport, Trentino Sviluppo), Melanie Duparc (General Secretary, World Union of the Olympic Cities & www.smartcitiesandsport.org – Winner of the “Olympic Cup” by the International Olympic Committee), Mons. Melchor Sanchez (Under-Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Culture (and responsible for the Department of Sport, Marathoner and President of Athletica Vaticana, Vatican), Marisa Fernandez Esteban (Deputy Head of the Sport Unit, European Commission), Iris Cordoba (General Manager, GSIC/Global Sport Innovation Centre powered by Microsoft) Magali Tezenas du Montcel (General Delegate, Sporsora/France), Massimo Mamberti (Secretary General, Comitato Leonardo), Anna Amati (Vice-President, Executive Director & Co-Founder of META.Group), Luigi Maria Vignali (Director General for Italians Abroad (with responsibilities on sport) & President Circolo degli Esteri – Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Italy i) and many other great interpreters of sport and innovation.

The under-representation of women in sport, both with regards to its practice and governance, is still a fact today. But this is by no means a plague anymore” – writes Mélanie Duparc (Secretary General, World Union of Olympic Cities) in the report “Women in Sport – A Smart Cities & Sport Publication” in 2018. Major efforts, for instance, by the IOC and the Italian Olympic Committee under the leadership of President Giovanni Malagò (new IOC Member), are gradually correcting this systemic element in the field of sports. New quotas in the governance of sport system and in the management committees of sport events are pivotal in transforming the sport landscape. We will rather look at best practices, explore innovative solutions and communicate a new message to the sport system. The seminar will articulate a new vision for the future and will enable stakeholders to discuss and reflect in perspective. The workshop will try to enable “female voices” to emerge and to engage in a public reflection on the future. The debate will be interactive, inter-disciplinary, future-oriented and forward-looking. We strongly encourage women in sport to participate – but the seminar is open and will be gender-neutral, focusing mainly on the relationship between leadership and sport.
