Within the "Creative Europe" programme, the Commission has opened a €1.5 million call for proposals to create innovative cultural centres around cinemas, particularly in areas where cinema and cultural infrastructure are limited and where the Covid 19 crisis has had a very strong impact.

This call for proposals is a preparatory action for activities to be funded in the next programming period, starting in 2021.

The Commission will support projects aimed at creating innovative cinema-centred cultural centres, with collaboration between cinemas and with other operators in the cultural and creative sector, including online platforms. It also expects the development of new business models to engage existing audiences and reach new audiences (especially young people), offering quality and diverse European creative content (audiovisual and other types of cultural content), as well as educational activities (e.g. film education, media literacy). Innovation should also address the film experience, leading to the development of new models of cultural experience, particularly in areas with limited film/cultural infrastructure or particularly affected by the COVID 19 pandemic crisis.

The call aims to support the social and economic development of local communities through innovative actions that take into account the effects of the pandemic crisis and revitalise the film experience both in its real and virtual dimension, improving cross-border cooperation between film operators, as well as between cinemas, VOD platforms and other cultural organisations.
The maximum co-financing rate is 70% of the total eligible costs. The deadline for submitting your proposal is 7 August 2020.
