In order to achieve its political objectives, the European Union provides substantial funding for public and private entities. In the 2014-2020 programming period about 20% of the EU budget will be invested in the so-called direct funding grants, which are managed directly by the European Commission and its executive agencies: through this source of funding transnational cooperation projects are co-financed in various fields such as research, innovation, culture, environment and tourism. The funds are allocated through sectoral programs, which identify the Union's priorities and the actions to be financed.
The Representation of the European Region Tyrol - South Tyrol - Trentino monitors the different open calls, provides information, training and advice on the possibilities offered to public and private entities.
